Our team has been scouting carbon removal startups for Occami, a Dutch client working to get CO2 out of the atmosphere for good.
Occami is the Amsterdam practice of Hans Westerhof, and the lists we build feed a Carbon Dioxide Removal accelerator programme delivered together with Technical University Delft and suslab, ETH Zurich’s sustainability lab. Since 2023 the work has continued under the Carbon Removal Foundation, the Dutch foundation set up around the programme.
Carbon removal here means the hard version: young teams of one to ten people whose technology takes CO2 out of the air and stores it for the long term – from direct air capture and afforestation to biochar, enhanced weathering and bioenergy with carbon capture. Mitigation, merely reducing emissions, was explicitly outside the scope.
For every startup we mapped the website, the geography and the decision-makers – CEOs, founders and owners – so the accelerator always has a fresh pool of candidates to select from.
What started as one list in 2021 has continued year after year, and the foundation still works with us in 2026.
